A shuttle bus will be available at the Fairfield and Hampton hotels in White River Junction for transport to the wedding service and reception. We HIGHLY encourage everyone to take the shuttle. Parking at the house is VERY limited and the roads are dark and windy at night.
The pick-up from the Fairfield and Hampton hotels will be at 3:15 PM on September 4th. Please be on time as there is only one shuttle planned. If you are running late, please let someone else know so they can ask the bus to wait.
You will be looking for a large yellow school bus which will be parked in front of the Fairfield Inn and Suites.
There will not be a shuttle to the church for guests at the Norwich Inn. The Norwich Congregational Church is located about 1 block from the Norwich Inn and is an easy walk. Please ask the front desk for directions.
Shuttles for all guests will run from the church to the reception starting at 5 PM.
Return shuttles from the reception back to the hotel will begin running at 9:00 PM. They will run once an hour every hour after that. The last bus will be at 2 AM. The bus will make stops at both the Norwich Inn and the Fairfield/Hampton Hotels in White River Junction. Please make sure the bus driver knows if you need to get off at the Norwich Inn.
Please only drive to the reception if absolutely necessary. If you are a local resident, please consider parking your car near the Norwich Inn or the Congregational Church and taking the shuttle from there.
Please be nice to the driver and tip him generously for his service at the end of the night :)

What to Wear!
Attire
The reception will be outside on the Sheldon's lawn. Before sunset, temperatures could range between 80 and 60, and could drop into the 50s at night. If the weather should be wet we will stay under the tent, but the ground is still likely to be a bit damp. You might want an umbrella in your luggage, just in case.
Men: Coat and tie or summer suit; or some reasonable variation thereon.
Ladies: We highly encourage you to wear flats or wedges if possible. There is a moderate walk from the driveway to the actual tent and the lawn will be a challenge for those in heels. A limited number of flip-flops will be available for those that cannot compromise on footwear :) Summer dresses or other garden party attire is perfect. Please be sure if bring a shawl or cardigan with you for later in the evening.

Directions to the Sheldon Home and Shuttle Information
Directions to the Sheldon House, at 388 New Boston Road:
This google link will give you a picture of the property, from which you can get directions.View Larger Map
Non-internet directions from the Norwich Inn: drive NORTH on MAIN Street, away from Dan and Whit's/Hanover/I-91. After .4 MILES turn LEFT on TURNPIKE Road (if you start going up a steep hill you've gone too far). After 1 MILE take the first RIGHT on NEW BOSTON Road. After 1.2 MILES the house will be on the RIGHT (if you start going downhill you've gone too far). It is visible below the road, and has stained wood clapboard siding and a standing-seam gray metal roof. The driveway is a 180 degree turn immediately past the house.
Transportation to the ceremony and reception:
On Saturday 9/4, we will provide shuttles from the Hampton and the Fairfield (a.k.a Comfort Inn) to the ceremony, and from the ceremony to the reception at the Sheldon house. The shuttles will return guests from the house back to the Norwich Inn and the Fairfield/Hampton Inns throughout the evening. Parking at the Sheldon house is limited, so even if you live in the area you can park around the Norwich Green (across from the church and the Norwich Inn) and take a shuttle back later.

Things to Do in Norwich
For those of you looking for things to do over the weekend, Aaron and I have a few suggestions for entertainment and eating in the area...
Eating and Drinking:
Norwich Farmers Market (http://www.norwichfarmersmarket.org/)
Ledyard Canoe Club (http://www.dartmouth.edu/~lcc/?page_id=8)
Eating and Drinking:
Norwich Inn (http://www.norwichinn.com/)
In addition to being a great hotel, the Norwich Inn also houses a restaurant and small brewery (Jasper Murdoch's Ale House). If the weather is nice there is a great outdoor area behind the main building.
Dan and Whits General Store (http://www.danandwhits.com/)
They don't have it, you don't need it. Seriously. The absolute soul of the town of Norwich, next to the Inn. Literally impossible to miss.
The Canoe Club (http://www.canoeclub.us/)
Located in downtown Hanover the Canoe Club is a great place to have a nice dinner or just hang out. Solid beer selection - everything from local micros to Pabst on tap.
Dartmouth College and Downtown Hanover (http://www.visithanover.com/)
Just across the Connecticut River that divides Vermont and New Hampshire, Hanover has a great downtown area with lots of stores, restaurants and coffee shops. Dartmouth College campus is beautiful, good for romantic walks or drunken stumbles (http://www.dartmouth.edu/).
Harpoon Brewery (http://www.harpoonbrewery.com/index.cfm?)
Located about a 30 minute drive from Norwich. Producers of Aaron's favorite beers.
Simon Pearce Glassware and Restaurant (http://www.simonpearce.com/category/restaurants/quechee.do)
Located about 30 minutes away from Norwich in Quechee, Simon Pearce is a great place to shop, watch artists at work blowing glass and throwing ceramics. They also have a great restaurant although it is on the pricey side. Aaron and Sarah would highly recommend lunching here instead of dinner if you want to save your wallets.
King Arthur Flour (http://www.kingarthurflour.com/)
Familiar to some of you from your grocery store shelves, the King Arthur Flour headquarters, retail store, and bakery are in Norwich, just down from the farmers' market. Buy just about any baking utensil or mix you can think of.
Outdoor Activities:
Norwich Green
Maybe obvious, but it's a pretty nice place to lounge on the grass in the middle of Norwich.
Gile Mountain (http://www.dartmouth.edu/~doc/hiking/gilemountain/)
Great for hiking (about 1.5 hours up and back). It is a quick 15 drive outside of Norwich, and seven minutes from Aaron's house. Very isolated and rustic without really being in the middle of nowhere, for those looking for a VT experience.
Norwich Farmers Market (http://www.norwichfarmersmarket.org/)
Open on Saturdays, this is a fun place to get a classic "Vermont" experience. Lots of yummy cheese, live music and a generally entertaining environment. And food. And locals.
Ledyard Canoe Club (http://www.dartmouth.edu/~lcc/?page_id=8)
Not to be confused with the aforementioned Canoe Club where you can eat burgers and drink lots of beer, the Ledyard Canoe Club involves actual physical activity. You can rent canoes and kayaks for $10/hour, $20/day for weekdays or $30/day for weekends and paddle along the Connecticut River.
The Sheldon Pond
Come to Aaron's family's house to swim in their pond! Not quite Olympic size, but entirely idyllic. Bring your towels, beers, wine and enjoy it any time. But fair warning: you could be put to work in the general preparations!

Weygandt Wines (http://www.weygandtwines.com/index.htm) This is a wine store near our apartment in Washington. The owner and proprietor, Peter Weygandt, is a long-time importer of French wines, and we worked with him to develop a list of wines that we find particularly appealing. Information on each wine is below, with links Weygandt’s notes on the producers. Should you like to make a selection, the store can take your order over the phone and we will pick it up. You can call 202-362-WINE (9436) for more information or to place an order. If you have any problems, please ask to speak with Tim O'Rourke. As of July 5 they had set aside about 5 bottles of each wine, but there is no particular limit.

Where to Sleep
We received word that there is another wedding in Norwich on the 4th, so if you are super organized and on top of it we have started to set aside some options for hotels.
1. Norwich Inn (www.norwichinn.com)
Closest hotel to wedding and reception. Unfortunately, the Norwich Inn is nearly full, with four rooms available for Friday 9/3 and one room available for Saturday 9/4 as of 6/21/2010. Mention the Sheldon Torrance wedding if you make reservations. This is also the likely location of informal brunching/lunching/lounging the Sunday after the wedding.

2. Hampton Inn, White River Junction VT (http://www.whiteriverhampton.com/)
More economical option near Norwich. Mention the September 4th wedding and receive 15% off. Call 802-296-2800 to make a reservation.
3. Fairfield Inn & Suites (Marriot), White River Junction VT (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/lebfi-fairfield-inn-and-suites-white-river-junction/)
Another wallet friendly option near Norwich. Mention the Sheldon/Torrance wedding and receive 15% off. Call 802-291-9911 to make a reservation with the discount.

**For those who made reservations at the Comfort Inn: A few weeks ago they were renamed Fairfield Inn and Suites. Apart from name and maybe décor there do not seem to have been any changes, and existing reservations are unaffected. You should have received an e-mail notification from Fairfield. If you did not receive an e-mail, please contact Fairfield to confirm your reservation.
4. Hanover Inn (http://www.hanoverinn.com/)
Second most convenient but a little more expensive. Easy access to downtown Hanover, NH with several bars and restaurants. Hanover is about a 10 minute drive from Norwich.

5. Trumball House (http://www.trumbullhouse.com/)
We know nothing about this place, but it is an option and it looks pretty.
We will be providing a shuttle from the reception to the Norwich Inn, the Hampton and the Fairfield (a.k.a Comfort Inn). The Fairfield and Hampton are right next to each other in case you are coordinating with other guests.
Thanks!
